Cover-up Allegation
Sexual Harassment InvestigationCover-Up At Highest Level
CTV News has exclusive details on what one Wasaga Beach town councillor is calling a cover-up at the highest level at town hall.
The alleged cover-up involves a town employee who was given a financial package and left her job following an affair with her boss, the town’s fire chief.
The woman’s mother is now speaking out, calling for an investigation into why her daughter had to leave while her boss kept his job.
Harassment complaint by former employee
An allegation from 2020 by a former municipal employee that she was harassed and mistreated by her boss has triggered accusations of a municipal cover-up, a Ministry of Labour investigation, and suggestions of political wrangling ahead of the October municipal election.
Rally against sexual harassment
Demonstrators in Wasaga Beach voiced their concern outside town hall on Friday.
The demonstration comes in the wake of a story aired by CTV News two weeks ago in which Wasaga Beach city councillor Joe Belange claimed a cover-up had taken place at the highest level of town hall.
Over 200 residents were on hand outside town hall on Friday, protesting the allegations of a cover-up by the town.
Embattled Fire Chief Retires
Wasaga Beach’s fire chief, Mike McWilliam, has announced his retirement.
McWilliam is leaving under a cloud, following a recent report by CTV News that in 2020, he was involved in an alleged affair with another municipal employee who was his subordinate, who then subsequently filed a complaint that she had been mistreated and harassed by the fire chief after the affair ended.
CTV News Barrie covers the announcement.
